We offer wildlife camera rentals at a sliding scale to fit any budget. Trail cameras can be used to see what wildlife is wandering through your yard, or to identify any critters causing issues (leaving dead animals in your yard, digging up gardens, pooping on your property, etc.). It's a lot of fun to see who's using your yard as habitat -- and a lot easier to address any issues that come up if you know who's there! Cameras can be rented for any length of time. Note that cameras can only be installed on private land for privacy purposes.
Level 1: You pickup 1 trail camera with written installation instructions and a memory card, but no batteries.
Level 2: We will deliver your trail camera and memory with fresh batteries installed to your home.
Level 3: We will deliver and install your trail camera in the most optimal spot for sighting wildlife.
Revenue from services go directly to funding Common Grounds staff and mission.
Deceased Animals
For legal reasons, we can only remove dead animals on private land.
We will only remove dead animals from outside of structures for the safety of our staff. If you have a dead animal in/under your home we may be able to refer you to someone to remove it.
For roadkill on city-owned roads and public spaces, local animal shelters/animal control such as Seattle Animal Shelter will usually remove dead animals for free.
On state roads, Washington Department of Transportation can remove animals for free.
Latrines
Raccoon scat (poop) can be dangerous as it often contains the eggs of a parasitic worm (raccoon roundworm, Baylisascaris procyonis) that are very difficult to kill and can pose significant health risks! Please don't try to remove a latrine yourself before reading about the hazards.
For more information on raccoon latrine removal please see King County's Department of Public Health's Recommendations.
We can remove these latrines for you to minimize your exposure.
Attractants Consultation:
We will identify attractants that may be encouraging the presence of the wildlife species you are concerned about (rats, coyotes, etc.) and may not want hanging out in your property for extended periods of time.
We can generally remove these attractants or advise how to handle them.
Exclusion:
We help find areas where rodents or other wildlife might be getting into your house and advise on how to minimize entry points/patch up points that exist.
We do not offer live animal removal services for legal and safety reasons.
Invasive plants often grow in monoculture (meaning they block out other plant life and take over wide spaces with a single species). Plants like Himalayan Blackberry and English Ivy are significant threats to biodiversity in our urban ecosystems. They also may pose a threat to humans, as rats love to use these thickly vegetated areas! Additionally, many of these plants are toxic. Pets and children can even be poisoned from eating these plants or get rashes from touching them.
English Ivy, a very common invasive in Washington, causes extremely itchy rashes that get worse with sun exposure and can last weeks! They can also send out volatilized compounds that cause lung and respiratory issues which makes removal somewhat dangerous.
We will physically remove your invasive plants and provide treatments if needed.
We do not remove Japanese knotweed as this plant is extremely difficult to effectively remove, but we can refer you to specialists.
We do not remove plants along water bodies or in environmentally critical areas (ECAs).
For more information on invasive plants and noxious weeds in Washington, visit the Washington State Noxious Weed Board.
We can also help you increase the biodiversity of your outdoor spaces and improve the overall habitat quality through our invasive plant removal services as well as through installation of native plants. We can even help make your rooftop greener!
